The Birthday Cruise aboard Celebrity Silhouette

Overall, Celebrity Silhouette was a nice ship. We enjoyed the atmosphere and found the ship pleasant and comfortable to spend time on. There were some signs of age, including the carpet in our cabin, but nothing that made the ship itself feel poorly maintained overall.

Food

The Birthday Cruise aboard Celebrity Silhouette

Food is one of Celebrity Silhouette's biggest strengths. This is an area where Celebrity continues to stand out for us. We found the food consistently good throughout the cruise, and even the included dining felt a step above what we've experienced on some other cruise lines. Food is a big reason we're willing to pay a little more to sail Celebrity.

Entertainment

The Birthday Cruise aboard Celebrity Silhouette

Entertainment continues to be one of Celebrity's weaker areas for our family. After our most recent Celebrity cruises, we've realized the line seems better suited to travelers looking for a quieter, more relaxed experience than families looking for nonstop entertainment.

That's not necessarily a negative—it just depends on what you want from a cruise. We enjoy relaxing, but we'd like to see more entertainment that appeals to us and keeps us interested in the evenings.

Kids & family activities

We didn't participate in many of the organized family activities, so we can't fairly give Celebrity a strong positive or negative rating here.

At this point, Ollie simply wasn't very interested in them. That's important because sometimes a cruise line gets blamed when the reality is that your kid has just outgrown—or isn't interested in—the activities being offered.

For our family on this particular sailing, the kids and family programming wasn't a major part of the vacation.

Service

The service was excellent. We've generally had very good experiences with cruise crews, and Silhouette was no exception. The staff was friendly, professional, and attentive throughout the trip. Nothing about the service felt like a weak point of this sailing.

Who we think this ship is best for

Families comfortable with a quieter pace who value dining and time together. We would read the itinerary and entertainment details carefully if constant activities are the main reason for booking.
